A Thousand Kisses

24.11.2018 - 07.12.2018

NHS Fryatt Hospital to 30 November & Then Harwich Mayflower Heritage centre

Between December 1938 and May 1940, almost 10,000 unaccompanied mostly Jewish children were brought to Britain from Nazi Germany, Austria, Czechoslovakia and Poland in what became known as the Kindertransports.

This exhibition tells the story of the Kindertransports through the experiences of eight children and the loved ones they left behind, whose documents, letters and memoirs are amongst those held in the Wiener Library Collections. It is a story of persecution, migration, of refugees who were made welcome and those who were turned away.

The exhibition will be on display at the NHS Fryatt Hopsital, Harwich from 24 November 2018.  It will then move to the Harwich Mayflower Heritage centre from 1 December to 7 December 2018. This later display coincides with our Sanctuary80 talk series.

The exhibition has been lead by our project partner The Wiener Library and was funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund. The research was led by an internship role as part of our project.
